Coffee Chat: Healthcare Access

From ACA replacement plans to attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, our current political climate leaves many of us unsure about the future of healthcare in America. Join us on April 11, 8-9am, at Coffee by Design on Diamond Street to discuss healthcare, how we can fight to gain the kind of healthcare system we need, and learn about the work being done by the Maine Women’s Lobby, YWCA Central Maine, and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England to ensure everyone has access to affordable care.

RSVP is required. Space is limited, so register early.

Our presenters:

Victoria Rodriguez is the Community Organizer and Program Assistant for the Maine Women’s Lobby, an organization focused on protecting Maine women and girls from violence and discrimination, improving their economic security, and increasing their access to quality healthcare services. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University at Albany, SUNY. While there, she was a Graduate Student Liaison with the New York State Public Health Association (NYSPHA) and created NYSPHA undergraduate and graduate student chapters at her alma mater to help connect students to mentors and internship opportunities. In 2015, Victoria completed a global health fellowship at UNAIDS Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. She worked in data analysis and evaluation of national budgets allocated to improving HIV/AIDS services to at-risk populations including women and children. Upon completion of her degree, she joined the Maine Women's Lobby to help support women statewide on a multitude of key issues including paid leave, fair wages, and access to quality healthcare services. This March, she is serving as a United Nations Association Women (UNA Women) delegate to the 61st Commission on the Status of Women at UN Headquarters in New York City.

Natalie Bornstein is the Social Justice and Advocacy Manager at the YWCA Central Maine in Lewiston. She completed her undergraduate education at Smith College and joined the YWCA in 2014. Her work focuses on connecting the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women to the Lewiston-Auburn community through relevant, challenging, and engaging community programming. Natalie organizes the YWCA’s social justice initiatives-including women and girls’ empowerment programming; anti-racist education and actions, and many community potlucks, dialogues, and gatherings. She is inspired by the transformative power of fun and friendship among women that she sees at the YWCA. Natalie is a Lewiston local and is thrilled to have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work in her hometown!

Jessica Milinichik is from Northeast Philadelphia and has always had a passion for public service. She began her career as an organizer with the Obama campaign while she studied Political Science at Arcadia University. Post-graduation she served in AmeriCorps at the Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity as a community organizer; making sure Philadelphians had proper and equal access to government programs. In November of 2014 she started working for Planned Parenthood Keystone as their Healthcare Advocate ensuring that our patients were able to properly navigate the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid Expansion. Believing that access to reproductive health affects the overall social, economic and health of women, she moved to Portland, Maine in October of 2015 to continue her work with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England as their HealthCare Outreach and Advocacy Manager.
